KEWI Welcomes New Governing Council Member, Mr. Hassan Ahamednur Baricha

The Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) has welcomed Mr. Hassan Ahamednur Baricha as a new Member of the Institute’s Governing Council following his appointment for a three-year term, effective 4 September 2026.

Mr. Baricha was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Hon. Eric Muriithi Mugaa, pursuant to the Kenya Water Institute Act and published through Gazette Notice No. 14171. His appointment adds to the leadership and expertise of the Governing Council as the Institute continues to strengthen its institutional capacity and advance its mandate in Kenya’s water sector.

A seasoned Human Resources professional, Mr. Baricha brings extensive experience in human capital development, organisational performance, productivity and institutional effectiveness. His professional background provides valuable expertise in an area that is central to the success of institutions: developing people, strengthening performance and creating systems that enable organisations to deliver effectively on their mandates.

His experience in human resource management and organisational performance is expected to provide the Governing Council with strategic insight as KEWI continues to pursue excellence in training, capacity development and institutional growth. The expertise will also complement the Institute’s efforts to promote professionalism, accountability, productivity and effective service delivery.

As the institution mandated to provide competency-based education, training and capacity building for the water sector, KEWI continues to play an important role in developing the skilled workforce required to support sustainable water and sanitation services in the country. The Institute’s mandate requires strong institutional leadership and strategic guidance to ensure that its programmes and operations remain responsive to the evolving needs of the sector.

Mr. Baricha’s appointment therefore comes at a significant time as KEWI continues to enhance its contribution to the development of competent and highly skilled human capital for Kenya’s water sector. His knowledge of human capital development and organisational effectiveness is expected to support the Council’s deliberations and strategic direction as the Institute works towards strengthening its impact and institutional performance.

The Governing Council provides strategic leadership and oversight in guiding the Institute towards the achievement of its mandate. The addition of Mr. Baricha to the Council brings another layer of professional expertise that can contribute to informed decision-making, performance improvement and the continued strengthening of institutional systems.
