1. Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Symposium 2022
Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) with the support of partners held the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Management Symposium on 9th and 10th May 2022 in Mombasa, Kenya whose theme was ‘‘closing the last mile to SDG 6’’. The Symposium showcased cutting edge technologies that address NRW reduction, brought together water service providers (WSPs), Water Works Development Agencies, scholars, technology experts, policy makers, development partners, institutions of higher learning, water associations, civil society, private sector and investors to share experiences on the globally accepted standards for the management of NRW.
The symposium was conducted both physically and virtually through plenary sessions, interactive panels for face to face participants and online sessions for virtual participants. The thematic areas were:
1) Non-Revenue Water Management Strategies;
2) Enabling Environment and Incentives for Non-Revenue Water Reduction at WSP level;
3)The Role of Academic Institutions, in the Management of Non-Revenue Water;
4)The Role of Financial Institutions and Private Sector in the Management of Non-Revenue Water;
5)National Policies, Regulations for Non-Revenue Water Reduction ; and
6) Data Management Analysis in Support of NRW Management.
A total of 17 Abstracts were submitted and 8 institutions participated in the exhibitions.
2. Application Form for Training on Safe Toilets
Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) through the Ministry of Water Sanitation and Irrigation (MWSI) has received a grant funding from the African Development Bank (AfDB) towards Improving Public Health and Enhancing Technical Skills of Youth in Kenya through Sanitation Technology Transfer. The funding is under the Policy and Human Resources Development Grant (PHRDG).
The project aims to offer short term training Programme to women and youth on the technology to impart them with knowledge and skills that would enable them to create job opportunities based on the technology. The 2-day short-term training program will be conducted in the Institute Campuses in October,2023.
The Institute hopes to recognize, train and mentor young Kenyans and women who demonstrate interest and willingness to develop entrepreneurial skills in the field of sanitation (Priority will be given to KEWI students and graduates and residents of pilot project implementation sites. 30% of the slots are reserved for Women)
