INTRODUCTION

Access to employment opportunities remains a major challenge to job seekers in Kenya, this is further compounded by inadequate information on labour migration policies, regulations, job search channels, awareness regarding public employment services, and employment orientation for the water sector. To address this, Kenya Water Institute (KEWI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation and the National Employment Authority (NEA is organizing a two-day job fair. This event provides a platform for job seekers to interact with recruitment agencies and receive labor market guidance.

OBJECTIVES

The primary objective of the KEWI Job Fair is to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers by:

  1. Facilitating linkages between KEWI graduates and potential employers in the water sector.
  2. Providing information on labor migration pathways.
  3. Provide awareness on skill development and certification alignment with specific job market needs.
  4. Enhancing awareness of public employment services.

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

Kenya faces a significant mismatch between the supply and demand of skilled labor. According to the World Economic Forum (2018), 30% of the Kenyan workforce has inadequate skills that leads to reduced productivity. Imperatively this leads to increase in the cost of doing business.

The National Employment Authority (NEA) has been at the forefront of promoting skill development and labor market linkages in the country.  This impacts directly   economic growth and address the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The KEWI Job Fair builds on these efforts by focusing on the water sector as a critical area for Kenya’s sustainable development.

Therefore, this KEWI 2025 Job Fair presents a unique opportunity to facilitate KEWI graduates with employment opportunities and career development.   

KEY COMPONENTS OF THE JOB FAIR

  1. Provides Recruitment agency space for Networking and engagement; Opportunities for job seekers to engage directly with employers in the water sector and related industries.
  2. Workshops and Discussions: Topics will include skill development, labor policies, and safe migration practices.
  3. Career Guidance and Counseling: Personalized career advisory services to assist job seekers in navigating the labor market.
  4. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Demonstrations: Sessions showcasing how formal and experiential skills can be assessed and certified for greater employability.
