Art, Culture, and Conservation Take Center-stage as Kisumu Campus Crowns Mr. and Ms. Environment 2026
On Friday, July 17, 2026, the environment club at Kisumu Campus hosted a highly impactful Cultural Day that seamlessly integrated culture and environmental awareness. Themed "Our Culture, Our Environment, Our Future," the event gathered students, staff, and distinguished guests to champion a secure and sustainable future.
The day featured a diverse array of activities celebrating both creativity and environmental stewardship. Key highlights of the event included Traditional cultural music and performances, Rap performances, spoken word, and poetry recitations, Lively comedy and entertainment, Comprehensive Environmental Awareness Campaigns and Exhibitions, and the highly anticipated crowning of Mr. and Miss Environment KEWI Kisumu.
The event's success was the culmination of weeks of collaborative preparation by staff and students, who worked together to secure corporate sponsors, service providers, and participants. The institute's management, local Kisumu leadership, and student representatives were instrumental in mobilizing resources while maintaining the core focus on sustainability. Furthermore, management's unwavering support during the final stages of planning catalyzed a successful brand activation exercise conducted a week prior by KCB, the event's co-sponsor.
A stellar delegation from KCB attended the event, led by Regional Marketing Manager Mr Brendan Obeto and Nyanza and Western Region Marketing Manager Mr Belden Seme both of whom were instrumental in securing part-sponsorship of the event. Other notable attendees included Engineer Brian Masicha, CEO of Brimana Contractors, and Ms Mildred Elsie from Finish Ink, a key advocate for sanitation and a strategic partner in Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) in the Western Region. Alongside Campus Front Office Assistant Beatrice Abisai, these guests graciously served as the adjudicators for the day's competitions.
Following opening remarks by the Principal Eng. Everlyn Orwa, a series of compelling presentations underscored the urgent need for concerted environmental conservation: Mr. Obeto advocated for sustainable habitats and emphasized the importance of driving sustainability through financial inclusion as Engineer Masicha highlighted the critical role of innovation in engineering, challenging students to adopt a proactive, problem-solving mindset in their future undertakings.
As evening approached, the event had clearly lived up to expectations, and anticipation built for the crowning of the pageant winners. Following rigorous, multi-round contests held throughout the day, the titles were awarded to two outstanding students who demonstrated an impressive combination of wit, nerve, beauty, and elegance: Ms. Environment KEWI 2026 title went to Valarie Achieng Odhiambo from the DWET Module III class as Mr Elim Domnick from the DWET Module I class staved off stiff competition to clinch the Mr. Environment KEWI 2026.
