ADMISSIONS
- All registered students of the Institute
- All members of staff
All persons registered to use the library are required to abide by the regulations of the library.
A person who is not a member shall gain access to the library only by special authorization by the Dean of students upon application by writing to use the facility.
Library members should produce their student ID cards at the circulation desk for service delivery purposes.
DISCIPLINE
- Good order and silence shall be maintained in the library at all times
- Smoking ,spitting, eating, drinking or sleeping in the library is prohibited
- Use of mobile phones in the library is prohibited
- The marking, defacing or mutilation of any library material is strictly prohibited. In the event that this happens the person shall have to replace such disfigured books and make payment of the of the damaged property thereof.
- All readers leaving the library in possession of books must show them to the library staff at the circulation desk.
- Re-shelving of materials used within the library is prohibited. Materials used should be left on the tables.
- Personal items such as jackets, umbrellas, file folders, briefcases , bags, dust coats and personal books etc shall not be allowed inside the library. They should be left at the shelves near the library entrance door.
- Prior reserving of sitting space is not allowed.
- The librarian shall suspend any user whose library conduct is considered unacceptable. Such persons shall then be reported to the Disciplinary Committee for further action.
BORROWING (GENERAL)
- All library materials may be borrowed including materials in great demand placed temporarily on short loan.
- Reference books and periodicals are not loaned out. They should be used inside the library.
- Loaned items are not be transferred from one borrower to another but must be returned to the library and formally re-issued.
- Borrowers are held personally responsible for the safe custody of any materials on loan to them .They shall be required to pay for the replacement of any item which is lost while on loan to them.
- Borrowers must satisfy themselves about the physical condition of the books before borrowing otherwise they shall be held responsible for any damage or mutilation noticed at the time of returning.
RESERVATION
Reservation of library materials that are on loan can be done at the issue Desk. As soon as an item is returned, that awaiting user will be notified. Users should keep constant checks at the issue desk. Items placed on reserve hold will be held for 3 days after which they may be returned to the shelves or given to the next person on the waiting list.
PERIOD OF LOAN
- The teaching staff are allowed to borrow (4) circulating books for a month
- Students are allowed to borrow (3) circulating books for a period of two (2) weeks
Teaching staff- 4 books for a month
Students- 3 books for 2 weeks
Non-teaching staff 3 books for a month
RENEWALS
- Most books may be renewed twice unless there are holds on them. Some high-demand books may not be renewed
- The item is not overdue
- The item is not on reserve or in heavy demand
- You have no blocks in your account
- You have not previously renewed the item or you have renewed it once.
PENALTIES
- Penalties according to scale approved by the library management staff will apply on failure to return books and other materials promptly.
- Those who have overdue items or lost items or lost materials shall not be allowed to borrow.
- A user who loses a library book shall be charged the cost of replacing the book and any administrative cost. Replacement costs paid will not be refunded even if the books are later found and returned
FINES
Fines are charged for all overdue items.
Circulating books-kshs 5.00 per day
Short loan-Kshs.10.00per day
INFORMATION SERVICE
Assistance with general inquiries and more detailed subject and bibliographical work may be obtained at the information desk.
PHOTOCOPYING/PRINTING &BINDING
Any photocopying, printing or binding service done in the library will be at a fee for students and visitors.
Photocopying Ksh 5/= per page , Binding Ksh 100/= per document and Printing Ksh 10/= per page.
Internet services are only for downloading educational materials and as such no one should be found browsing non academic materials. No face book, twitter or crowding around computers.
Avoid tampering with the computers in anyway. If found you will be held responsible.
