Dr. Edward Simiyu Installed as Kitui Campus Principal
The Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) Kitui Campus today celebrated a significant milestone with the induction of its new Principal, Dr. Edward Simiyu, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a new chapter in the institution's journey towards excellence. The event brought together members of staff and senior management in a demonstration of unity, continuity, and commitment to the Institute's mandate of developing competent human resources for the water sector through quality education, training, research, consultancy, innovation, and outreach services.
The induction ceremony, which symbolized both leadership transition and institutional renewal, provided an opportunity for staff to interact with the new leadership and reaffirm their collective commitment to advancing KEWI's vision and strategic objectives. As the Institute continues to play a critical role in supporting sustainable water resource management and sanitation services in Kenya, the occasion served as a reminder that strong leadership remains central to achieving its mission.
The programme was ably moderated by Mr. Wamiti, Senior Deputy Director, Academic Affairs (SDDAA), who guided the day's proceedings and created an interactive platform through which staff members could engage with the incoming leadership team.
In his welcoming remarks, the outgoing Acting Principal, Mr. Simon Peter Wambua, reflected on the progress made during his tenure and expressed his appreciation to staff members for their dedication, professionalism, and support. He acknowledged the collective efforts that have contributed to the growth of the campus and encouraged staff to extend the same cooperation and commitment to the new leadership as the institution embarks on its next phase of development.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the introduction of the new Principal, Dr. Edward Simiyu, by the Director/CEO, Leiro Letangule, PhD, EBS. Dr. Simiyu holds a Doctorate and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Finance, bringing to KEWI a wealth of expertise in leadership, management, and academic administration. He previously served as a lecturer at Taita Taveta University and has also taught Business Studies at the secondary school level, experiences that have equipped him with a strong understanding of education, mentorship, and institutional development.
Addressing members of staff, Dr. Simiyu emphasized the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and shared responsibility in achieving institutional success. He noted that the true strength of any institution lies in its people and acknowledged the critical role played by staff in driving organizational growth and service delivery. He expressed his commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to strengthen the campus, foster innovation, and create an environment that supports excellence in both teaching and service.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity to introduce the broader management team that will support the realization of the Institute's goals. Among those present were Ms. Christine Mwendwa, Senior Deputy Director, Human Resource Management and Administration (SDDHRM&A), and Dr. Ayao, Senior Deputy Director, Research Services and Business Development (SDDRS&BD), who joined the Director/CEO in welcoming the new Principal and engaging with staff.
The new leadership team assumes office at a time when KEWI continues to strengthen its position as a centre of excellence in water education and training. Through enhanced academic programs, research and innovation, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building, the Institute remains focused on equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills required to address emerging challenges in the water sector. The induction therefore represented not merely a change in leadership, but a renewed commitment to the institution's mandate and a shared vision for the future.
As KEWI Kitui Campus turns a new leaf, the induction of Dr. Edward Simiyu and the introduction of the management team signal renewed momentum towards growth, innovation, and continuous improvement. The occasion underscored the importance of strong leadership, teamwork, and collective responsibility in advancing the Institute's mission and ensuring that it remains responsive to the needs of the water sector and the communities it serves.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Senior Principal Lecturer Madam Kasuki, who expressed gratitude to the Director/CEO, the new management team, the outgoing Acting Principal, and all members of staff for their participation and support. She called upon the KEWI community to embrace the transition with optimism and dedication as the campus continues its journey towards greater achievements.
